ISO 50001 focuses on factors that companies can influence and adapt to their individual requirements, enabling systematic and continuous improvement of energy efficiency.

The goal of energy management is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, minimize environmental impact, and lower energy costs. To achieve this, VS implements systems and processes that enhance energy performance, including efficiency and consumption.

ISO 38200 is a globally recognized standard for the Chain of Custody (CoC) in the manufacturing cycle of wood and wood products. It regulates the transfer of information along the supply chain and supports responsible, legal wood sourcing – aligned with the EU Timber Regulation. All wood and wood products used in manufacturing at VS are sourced from sustainably managed forests and comply with ISO 38200 chain-of-custody standards.

Since 2008, VS has been a voluntary member of the UN Global Compact, the world's largest initiative for sustainable and responsible corporate management. We have committed ourselves to integrating 10 universally acknowledged principles into our corporate policy. These principles are subdivided into four areas: protection of human rights, adherence to social and employment standards, environmental protection, and the fight against corruption.

Cradle to Cradle (C2C) promotes a waste-free production cycle by ensuring materials can be reused, recycled, or composted without harmful residue. We embrace C2C principles through dismountable construction, low-pollutant materials, and a focus on durability – keeping products in use longer before re-entering the material cycle. 

BIFMA e3 LEVEL is the sustainability certification program of the Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association (BIFMA). It evaluates and certifies school, office, and contract furniture based on environmental and social responsibility criteria. Most VS products have been certified to BIFMA e3 LEVEL.

European Level is a standard for office, school, and contract furniture with comprehensive product- and company-related criteria for sustainability and a circular economy. The standard is published by the European Furniture Association FEMB. We focus on European Level because of its holistic approach – many of our products are certified according to European Level, all of which have achieved the highest rating, Level 3.

The EU Ecolabel is awarded to products and services that have a lower environmental impact than comparable products. The label is designed to help consumers identify products that are better for the environment and their health. 

GREENGUARD is an emissions label issued by UL (Underwriters Laboratories), a leading U.S. testing institute. It sets strict limits on volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions, and our furniture is tested to ensure compliance. Many VS products carry the GREENGUARD label, with most meeting the highest standard, Gold.

The BIFMA Compliant program verifies that products are tested to BIFMA standards in an ISO 17025 accredited lab, ensuring all applicable tests are conducted. Many of our products are BIFMA Compliant, meeting rigorous standards for safety and durability.

The GS mark is our guarantee of the safety of our furniture. In a GS test, an independent accredited organization tests products for stability, strength, and durability, while also focusing on ergonomic requirements. Most VS products bear the GS mark.     

This certification program sets strict requirements for emissions and pollutants, exceeding legal standards. This is how VS ensures that no harmful emissions come from our furniture and that the product cycle remains free from environmentally harmful substances. We test and monitor many of our products under this certification program.

The AGR seal of approval is awarded to products that meet strict criteria for back-friendly design, promoting better posture and spinal health. Several VS products carry this seal, reflecting our commitment to ergonomic excellence.
