The “Neutra Furniture Collection by VS” on tour in the USA
Recently arrived on the market, the Re-Edition furniture of the “Neutra Furniture Collection by VS” can already be admired in a museum: the “A+D Architecture and Design Museum, L.A.” dedicated a 5-week exhibition to the spectacular furniture launched for the first time by VS. No wonder the unique and elegantly proportioned furniture designs of the architecture icon Richard J. Neutra (1892-1970) have the potential to become absolute classics.
The design-loving public showed their excitement: Most visitors to date were able to associate some of the most famous houses and villas of Californian modernism with the architect Richard J. Neutra. But most visitors were surprised to learn that Neutra’s life’s work also contains a range of impressive furniture designs that were developed by him specifically for these buildings. Suitably curious visitors attended the exhibition “A Pioneer of the International Style – the Undiscovered Furniture Designer” at the “A+D Architecture and Design Museum in L.A.” held between 20 February and 28 March 2014.
Well positioned in the middle of the influential, design-minded museum mile of Los Angeles and in direct proximity to the city’s major museums, the exhibition was able to attract a large number of visitors. The much-praised opening event alone was attended by around 400 visitors.
Richard J. Neutra is one the pioneering architects of the modern age, who shaped the “International Style” with his well-lit residential buildings. Because he realised many of his most celebrated building projects in California, his name and his works are extremely well-known specifically in Los Angeles.
Although Neutra worked predominantly in the USA, his furniture designs were rediscovered in Germany, by VS in Tauberbischofsheim. The individual pieces and small production runs have been researched and documented down to the finest detail here. With the “Neutra Furniture Collection by VS” an exclusive manufactured collection has thus been created which is now returning to the USA more than 90 years after Neutra emigrated from Europe to Chicago.
